Sailing Drop your kids off at Camp Hawk so you can come learn all about the open seas and the wind in your hair. Hawks Cay Resort is the exclusive Florida Keys home of The Colgate Offshore Sailing School™, regarded as one of the best sailing programs in the country. All instruction takes place aboard Colgate sailing vessels ranging from 26 to 42 feet in length with lessons tailored to the exact skill level of each student.

Sailboat racing excursions are also available for those that want all the thrill of sailing without actually becoming part of the crew.

Hawks Cay's Offshore Sailing School is the life-long passion of its founders and co-owners, Steve and Doris Colgate. The pair believes sailing is an experience that opens doors to new and exctiting destinations, creates lasting friendships, and satisfies everyone's innate desire for adventure.

Steve has been involved with sailing nearly his whole life, developing a reputation as one of the foremost competitive racing sailors and most pre-eminent sailing educators in the world. He has competed in TransAtlantic races, America's Cup Trials, The Olympics, and numerous small-boat and maxi-ocean races. As well, Steve has successfully journeyed around Cape Horn - long considered one of the ocean's most challenging voyages. Steve is a Yale University graduate, a member of the New York Yacht Club, the Cruising Club of America, the Royal Ocean Racing Club, and is actively involved with sailing's governing body, US SAILING. On the business end of things Doris is a prominent figure in the world of sailing and sailing education also. She is the author of the award-winning how-to book, SAILING: A Woman's Guide and also Fast Track to Cruising, the Colgate's newest book. Doris is listed in Who's Who of America, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who of Finance, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and has just earned a position in Who's Who in American Education.

The Colgates are both tireless participants in national and international efforts to raise the standards of sailing education and increase opportunities for people to sail. In 1996 they received the coveted Sail Magazine Industry Award for Leadership and joined an incomparable list of movers and shakers in the world of sailing, announced by Sail Magazine in its January 2000 issue. In 2003 they received the US SAILING Timothea Larry Trophy in recognition of their outstanding leadership and excellence in sailing education.
